How to Apply a TCA Peel at Home (Step-by-Step Instructions)

This is the standard method used when learning how to use a TCA peel at home safely and effectively.

1. Treatment Area Preparation

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  • This is the foundation of correct TCA peel instructions, and skipping this step can affect results and safety.
  • Cleanse the selected treatment area (face, neck, or décolletage) using a gentle, non-irritating cleanser.
  • Put on the provided nitrile gloves.
  • Using the supplied gauze, apply an acetone-based cleansing solution to degrease the skin completely. This step is essential to ensure optimal penetration of the TCA solution.

2. Product Preparation

  • Activate the Solution:
Shake the ampoule for a few seconds until the solution turns green, forming a temporary emulsion.
  • Draw the Solution:
Without removing the butyl stopper, use the provided sterile blunt drawing needle and 2ml syringe to extract the required amount of product.
  • Detach the drawing needle and attach the dedicated applicator tip.

3. Product Application

  • Wearing nitrile gloves, apply the TCA solution evenly across the skin using the applicator.
  • Gently massage until the solution is fully absorbed.
  • Recommended dosage:
    Face: 1.5–2 ml
    – Neck: 1–1.5 ml
    – Décolletage: 1.5–2 ml
  • For facial application, begin with the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), then proceed to the U-zone (cheeks and jawline).
  • This is the standard method used when learning how to use a TCA peel at home safely and effectively.

4. Treatment Duration

  • Face, Neck, Décolletage: Leave the product on for exactly 7 minutes.
  • Body Areas (hands, knees, elbows, glutes, feet): Leave on for 7–10 minutes, depending on skin sensitivity.

5. Product Removal

After the designated exposure time, gently cleanse the treated area using gauze soaked in clean water.

6. Treatment Frequency

The TCA at Home Peel can be repeated every 21 to 30 days, depending on your skin’s response and tolerance

This schedule is part of standard how to apply TCA peel at home protocols used in controlled at-home treatments.

frosting

Frosting in the context of TCA (trichloroacetic acid) chemical peels refers to the white discoloration that appears on the skin immediately after application of the acid. It’s caused by protein coagulation in the epidermis due to the chemical injury created by TCA.

What Causes Frosting?
  • TCA reacts with skin proteins and denatures them.
  • The denatured keratin turns opaque white, producing the “frosted” appearance.
  • This is not pus or product residue, it’s a visible marker of epidermal injury.
Depth Indicator

Degrees of Frosting

Frosting Type, Appearance, Depth, & Clinical Meaning
Level I: Light haze, erythema visible underneath Superficial epidermis, Mild exfoliation
Level II : Opaque white, patchy    Full-thickness epidermis        Medium-depth peel
Level III : Solid white with no erythema    Upper reticular dermis  Deep injury, risk of PIH or scarring

Important Notes

Frosting is dose-dependent: higher concentrations (20%–35% TCA) yield more intense frosting. Uneven frosting may occur due to skin oiliness, uneven application, or pre-peel prep. Overfrosting can lead to prolonged healing, PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), or scarring, especially in darker skin types.

Clinical Tips

Always prepare your skin for a TCA peel properly (degreasing, pH balancing). Use lower concentrations (10%–15%) for sensitive or darker skin types. Frosting typically subsides within minutes to hours, followed by erythema and desquamation (peeling) over days.
